Taking Stock

In 2009-10, the UK Teacher Education (TE) Network for Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship (ESDGC) developed and implemented an email survey to explore how teacher educators approach ESDGC in their course provision. The survey aimed to establish the pattern of Teacher Education provision for sustainable development/global citizenship across the UK in primary and secondary so as to work with colleagues to support and develop provision in a more consistent form.

SORTED - Sustainability Online Resource and Toolkit for Education

SORTED is an online resource and toolkit provided by EAUC (Environmental Association of Universities and Colleges) for the learning and skills sector. The site provides a wide range of useful information and links, as well advice for use at the varying stages of your sustainability education journey, either as an individual, or as an institution. This includes pages on case studies and guidance on continuing professional development. This is an invaluable resource for staff and students alike.

ESD An Expert Review of Processes and Learning, UNESCO 2011

This Expert Review, authored by Daniella Tilbury, commissioned by UNESCO is part of their phased Monitoring and Evaluation of the Decade. It endeavors to identify which commonly accepted learning processes are aligned with ESD and should be promoted through ESD-related programmes and activities. It also seeks to examine which learning opportunities contribute to sustainable development.

Materials from the UCU Environment Conference November 2010

The second University College Union national environment conference 'Sustainable Development - Making our Voice Heard' held on November 18th, 2010 was a big success. Over 50 participants met to review the work of the union during 2010 and develop an action plan for 2011. The day was structured around the 3 themes pioneered by the UCU, in the last 2 years, of campus, curriculum and community.

Most Wanted: Post Graduate Skills Needs in the Environment Sector

This skills needs review, published by the merged Environmental Research Funders Forum and Living With Environmental Change in 2010, provides a clearer picture of current and future training needs in the environment sector than has existed previously, in identifying 15 critical skills gaps including interdisciplinarity, sustainability science and planning, as well as a range of skills in resource provision and environmental quality assessment. 

First-year attitudes, and skills in, sustainable development - NUS/HEA Report 2011

This research report builds on desk based research into students surveys and then shows the result of a 5800 first year student survey. It was researched and written by the NUS Services and partners and includes some stunning statistics across the whole of the UK.

ESD in the UK 2010

This report is an update from the 2008 report and also reflects on progress since 2008 as well as filling in some gaps.
