About SEEd

Sustainability and Environmental Education (SEEd) is a registered charity that identifies, promotes, enables and supports environmental education and education for sustainable development in the UK.

A brief history of SEED and CEE

The Council for Environmental Education (CEE) was established in the 1960's as a national membership body for organisations and individuals in England committed to environmental education and education for sustainable development. Much has changed since the 1960's and new directions are required for the organisation to meet the new challenges and changes faced by both the education and environmental sector.

Driving Sustainable Education / ESD

Relaunched in 2008 under the new charity name 'SEEd', Sustainability and Environmental Education seeks to drive forward Education for Sustainable Development into the mainstream of the education system – schools, colleges, universities, teachers and their communities.

SEEd does this by being an umbrella organisation for national Non-Government Organisations interested in environmental Education for Sustainable Development and the environment. We do this by being a national membership body that facilitates wider stakeholder engagement processes, promotes shared learning and develops cross sector partnerships.
